Is anyone familiar with the JD 506 brush hog type mower? I saw one listed for sale but can't find any info on it. Is it a light duty model, how old could it be,what size is it ? I want one to use on my 50.

Thanks

Jack

We use to have a 606 we bought new in late 70s. I never liked it for big weeds because it had the stump jumper disc on it and clutches would slip in big weeds but worked okay on short stuff. It only had a Cat. 1 hitch too and needed one later with Cat. 2 so sold it. 506 should work good on a 50 and parts will be available yet from JD or aftermarket blades also. Should be able to find it in the JD parts catalog online. If you get it manuals are available by calling 800-522-7448 or http://techpubs.deere.com

Our town has one, for vacant lot and ditch mowing. It has had the SNOT beat out of it for many years, and, yes, we've had to rebuild the gearbox a couple of times over the years, but it's been a pretty good machine.

If you are wondering what they look like, here's a photo, found on the 'net:

Our town's unit is a trailer-type, though, with 2 rear wheels.
